Don’t you love when someone recommends a business to you? Kudzu is the new website for home improvement recommendations. And the Kudzu representative came by our showroom recently to find out what makes our company special.

They created this quick video with me for their website. They were curious about our replacement windows and doors business because we have been receiving glowing testimonials and positive feedback on their Kudzu site.

I really love personal recommendations. It feels like I have been guided to a company I can trust almost automatically. And in this busy world of smart phones, iPads, and digital media, that tried and true ‘word of mouth’ recommendation is hard to come by. So online referral sites make it easier.

Angie’s List created an amazing word-of-mouth community because Angie had a big vision. She knew how much other people’s comments make a difference when you are shopping. Millions of homeowners across the country find reputable companies, contractors and builders in their neighborhood using Internet communities like Angie’s List.

The relatively new kid on the block, Kudzu, was launched in Atlanta, Phoenix and San Diego in 2006. Like Angie’s List, it offers homeowners honest, uncensored feedback on millions of businesses. Recommendations and input from other homeowners—just like you! You get straight talk and the honest truth in every testimonial. That’s what sets these online forums apart from the phone book and from regular paid advertising.

We’re thrilled to read what people say about us. Because we know it’s a genuine referral and they feel good about the value of our products and customer service. And we’re equally happy to field questions and offer our knowledge, whether it’s here on the blog, over the phone or in our showrooms, because informed customers make the best buying decisions for their own priorities.

Check out the Kudzu site when you are ready for some homeowner recommendations on DIY projects, and some great “Advice from the Pros” too. You’ll find 4 million consumer reviews and detailed business profiles featuring photos, videos and deals. Internet ‘word of mouth’- gotta love the online neighborhood.

The Case History series explores innovative solutions to window and door problems.

The Mitchell’s trouble began when the one window in their master bedroom fogged up. They loved the view of the little creek winding through the woods out back, and now the fog had spoiled the view.

The Mitchells had never liked this window. It was aluminum and it had never kept them comfortable. Their bedroom had always been too hot or too cold, and now it was gloomy, too.

The Solution:
The Mitchells came to Mr. Rogers Windows looking for a replacement for the fogged window. But as we talked to them, their love for the wooded setting outside the bedroom became clear. They were even talking about adding a deck.

We suggested a patio door to the Mitchells. Not only would they would have a large, private view of the woods outside, they would have instant access when they wanted to take a walk. Plus, with an auxiliary foot lock, a patio door is just as safe as a window.

The Mitchells' new Frenchwood sliding door.

The Mitchells thought the idea was great, and they quickly fell in love with the Frenchwood sliding door. Our installers came out a few weeks later and cut a new opening for the door. With the help of an electrician they rerouted some wires and installed the patio door.

Now the Mitchells have a lovely view and quick access to their backyard. Their energy bills are falling and the bedroom is their new favorite room.
